[ Some time later in this fine murdergame Sunday, there is a body by the outskirts of the city. It's right by the boundary that usually fills people with dread and makes them turn back!
But instead Joonghyuk is here, passed out, with his wolf daemon whining and nudging him with its muzzle. ]
[UM???? yeah that's not good LET'S GO TAF Alisaie's getting her ass over there as quick as she can once she sees someone on the ground, dropping down to her knees beside them.]
Wake up--can you hear me?
[IF ONLY SHE COULD USE HER MAGIC HERE.........]

[Breathing is good. Breathing means alive, at least. Alisaie rolls him onto his back, if he wasn't already on it, and starts checking him over for any wounds he might have sustained. To the daemon, she asks:] What happened to him? No, wait--I'll ask you questions. If the answer's yes, then sit down. If no, lie down instead.
[She very much hopes that the wolf can understand her... Taf can, but she's not sure if any other companions can understand her.]
[ There are no wounds! Though it seems like a lot of sand is on his clothing. For the most part, very much looks like he passed out.
............ Well. Alisaie is smart enough to remember daemons cannot speak and I was able to scour the mod questions rq for the human speech in general answer. The wolf daemon sits down for a yes. ]
[Yeah, she'd almost told the wolf to just stand up again if it was correct, but... they're at least on the same page. Her expression tightens, and she looks down to him.]
I suppose now I understand why Taf was so determined to keep me away from the edge of the city...
[Okay.] Has he been like this for very long? He needs to wake up, or he'll be in danger of worse damage. [Beat, and then to the wolf:] I'm only doing this to wake him up, so don't you lunge at me.
[And then she's going to yank him up by his shirt, giving him a sharp smack across the face. It's not as hard as she can manage, but uh. She's no weakling so.]
[ You know what... Niah, the daemon, thinks this is fine. If it could slap Joonghyuk, then it would. So she can slap him once. Blearily, his eyes flutter open a bit.
There is a glare and wow his cheek is red from the smack. ]
Given that you didn't wake the first time I attempted to rouse you, I'd say I did.
[Okay, you're awake, she can dump him back to the ground no she'll lower him a little more gently than that, considering he was just unconscious and she doesn't want to knock him out again... but she's not as concerned now.]
What did you see beyond the walls before you passed out? Anything?
[If you expected bedside manner you're talking to the wrong twin.]
[ Alisaie is too nice? She should just drop him and also he prefers a straight to the point person so she'd probably be his favorite twin. He does slowly pick himself back up on his feet with a short groan. ]
No. Nothing at all. [ He is so angry and disappointed. ] As you try to go further, the pressure increases to the point you lose consciousness.
Whatever is holding us here must not want us to venture off yet.
I suspect a barrier would have precluded its own challenges. [Notably, the aether or technology to power it... so far she's seen a definitive lack of either.]
Perhaps once the fog clears we'll be able to see what lies beyond the city limits. For now, I think you're right. We may be better served by trying to solve the mysteries that lie within the city instead.
[By and large, Urianger is the most scholarly of all of them. He's the one that ferrets out little tidbits of information that have been tucked away over time, the one that summarizes them into one complete whole that the rest of them can take and run with. It's a comfort, hearing his voice lecturing on minute details.
But Urianger isn't here. She is. And so Alisaie's lost herself in the city streets, running her fingers over the graffiti on the walls, the carvings--there's a lot of them to be found, and they can tell you a lot about a place.
Unfortunately. She's short. And some of these are stupidly high??? maybe there was something below that crumbled away over time, she doesn't know; all she knows is that she needs to be Taller.
So whenever he comes across her, Alisaie is in the process of standing on a red chocobo's back, looking at what's carved into the stone.]
[ Urianger also speaks in a tongue older than dirt, but that's fine. Joonghyuk is also drawn to the walls of this place. They may seem like unfortunate stains on the city, but they tell some story... A time before any of them arrived.
While he never got her name, he has seen the profiles and remembers her. Except she is doing a strange thing. ]
[It's a lucky thing that Alisaie has a steady sense of balance, otherwise she might have fallen right off that chocobo! She does start at the sound of his voice, but aside from a slight wobble she's fine as she looks his way.]
There's a carving on this wall. I was hoping to get a better look at it.
[She's not moving, but she'll point it out to him to see--a sort of winged pattern surrounding a curious center.]
[Just plopping this here since there were several images in it...
"Well overall, they'll notice that the buildings are in poor condition. They've been obviously neglected and suffered from the weather which should all speak to the state of which they've arrived.
If they keep looking, there are some key things to notice around town, and particular above the entrance to homes and smaller shops. At the top of the doorways are scribbles that may be familiar to yjh. Those "scribbles" can be found sporadically across the walls and against some of the windows hang wind chimes with small angels used as weights. Against some of the walls, as well, are engravings of circular winged patterns with what looks to the the top of the tower at the center of it.
However, there is one thing that would be curious to note are strange crank-like devices that seem to have some sort of light filter on them. They also seem to be hooked up to a speaker of sorts. What they do and what they're for is not obviously clear. Any attempts to turn the crank will be met with resistance as the gears seem to be locked or stuck in some way. There also doesn't seem to be any clear way to discern what is exactly wrong with them and taking it apart yields no further information of how to get it working. What is clear is that there will be quite a number of them scattered down the alley and by buildings. ( 1, 2, 3 )"]
Is it? [She returns her attention to it, looking at the carvings with a new eye and craning her head back to look from a bit further back. She'd been distracted by the wings.] Good eye. I think you've got the right of it.
[After taking another long look at it, she hops down from Taf's back, patting him fondly.] But why would they have carved these wings here? One can hardly imagine they would want to draw these angels to this location...
Forgive me. In the last world I was in, creatures shaped like these angels were naught but mere monsters, drawn to attack living beings. Those who believed otherwise were only being controlled by a madman. They too were faithful--and many of them died for it.
[Oops someone still has feelings about things.]
I pray these angels were more benevolent, though I admit I find it hard to believe they were.

So it would seem. The question is, do they not want us to venture off so that they can spy on us, or is it truly unsafe out there?
[Look once you've seen the wasteland that the Flood brought, you kind of understand why you might not want to venture somewhere.]
Either way, we cannot know for sure now.

[ It’s strange and magical. The First is something, so that’s fair enough. ]
A barrier could have erected instead of this. [ A sigh. ] We’re left to our own devices for now.

Wings seem to be a common theme in this city.

[There are TOO MANY SIN EATERS HERE]

If we believe these angels actually protect civilians, then it wouldn't be strange to mark the whole city with these symbols.
[ Mm. ]
I personally have never seen such faithful followers.

... It's foolish to not question those in power, even if they're the ones that provide.
[ ... ]
Unfortunately, while I don't believe they are monsters in the literal sense, I'm reluctant to think they're benevolent.
[ This place is abandoned... And, well, they were just talking about faithful followers dying in two different scenarios. ]
